Environment

Sustainable agriculture is farming in sustainable ways, which means meeting society’s present food and textile needs, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This includes the care of the environment in which farming businesses operate in.

The Environmental Farming Scheme (EFS) is a voluntary scheme that will support farmers and land managers to carry out environmentally beneficial farming practices on agricultural land.

However, this programme has demonstrated how partaking in this scheme does not mean a compromise in output. With climate change becoming an ever-increasing concern, measuring and reducing the carbon footprint of farming businesses is vital.
