Lochaber MF Meeting Reports - 2018
The Monitor Farm meeting in November featured fluke control in sheep and an update on the lamb finishing project. A short video produced by Moredun was shown to highlight the key points of managing sheep to control liver fluke. The importance of forecasts was highlighted including the use of NADIS and SCOPS websites for updates. Matthew Colston from Elanco gave a presentation on practical aspects of fluke control. Mairi Thom from Crown Vets discussed the test results from lambs from five members of the community group. The full theme report from the trial is here.
There was no sign of the light drizzle dampening the spirits of those attending the open day at Lochaber on 13th June 2018. There was a chance to see the progress made by Chris and Malcolm Cameron almost half way in to the Monitor Farm Programme. There was an overview of the cattle enterprise, sheep enterprise and improvements in place for the grassland.
The meeting on 15th March focused on lamb finishing and on how best to manage the land recently acquired by Chris and Malcom.
The February meeting for Lochaber held at the Moorings included a workshop on the vision for the uplands and the report from the meeting is here. There were thought provoking presentations from SNH and from NFUS. Interviews were recorded with the speakers. Please also see biographies of the speakers and actions from a 2015 meeting on the topic. You may also be interested in a presentation on hill farming in Scotland by Davy McCracken.
